PEC Zwolle has earned three points from its first match of the new season. The tenth-placed team from the previous Eredivisie season won at home 1-0 against a disappointing FC Twente, which just missed out on European football in May. PEC Zwolle, which lost attacking forces Filip Krastev, Younes Namli, and Dylan Vente during this transfer period, has not yet reached the desired level with its selection. Expectations were therefore not high for the match against Twente. Nevertheless, the home team opened the score after just eight minutes. Thijs Oosting, one of the new signings, passed goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall with a low shot and thus thwarted his father Joseph for the second time in his professional career. FC Twente coach Joseph Oosting also experienced this in 2022 as coach of Willem II, when his son scored two goals against him while playing for RKC. Twente, which saw top scorer Sem Steijn leave for Feyenoord and Michel Vlap for Qatar but managed to bring back Robin Pröpper and Ramiz Zerrouki, did not put up much of a fight. They were even lucky when Jamiro Monteiro headed over and Kaj de Rooij also missed a chance. Pröpper had the equalizer on his foot after a corner kick, but did not make contact with the ball. With two new players coming on immediately after the break and a third after an hour, Oosting hoped to turn the tide with Twente. The visitors did put more pressure on the opponent, but 20-year-old PEC goalkeeper Tom de Graaff, who replaced the injured Jasper Schendelaar and made his Eredivisie debut, did not have to use all his goalkeeping skills. PEC Zwolle, where 19-year-old Gabriël Reiziger - the son of former international Michael Reiziger - made his Eredivisie debut as a substitute, could not muster any more attacking power. But that was not necessary to keep the points at home. The win is a good start for PEC Zwolle, which can now look ahead to the rest of the season. The upcoming matches will show whether PEC Zwolle can maintain its good form. PEC Zwolle has at least laid a good foundation for the rest of the season. The team's performance was impressive, and they will look to build on this win. PEC Zwolle's fans will be hoping for more of the same in the coming weeks.
